NextPhase Wireless, from Newport Beach, earned approval Tuesday from the Federal Communications Commission to provide WiMAX wireless services across the nation.
WiMAX is essentially wireless high-speed Internet access available for larger areas than typical Wi-Fi hot spots. Fountain Valley’s D-Link announced its first WiMAX router in October 2006.
According to a release on the FCC clearance, NextPhase plans to use the WiMAX network in all 48 contiguous U.S. states to deliver “integrated Internet, voice, video and managed services.” The company currently provides wireless Broadband Internet service to more than 10,000 customers in California and Nevada and provides Internet service through various service providers in 19 states.
